To celebrate the second anniversary of the opening of the Shusui Museum of Art, we are proud to present this exhibition, The World of Hirofumi Adachi: My Self within Myself, featuring works by this artist, including a number from the museum collection.
Adachi was born in Asahi Town, Toyama Prefecture in 1952, and after finishing a graduate program at the Tokyo University of the Arts, he served as an overseas artist trainee dispatched by the Agency for Cultural Affairs, studying in Florence, Italy. In 1997, he was awarded the honor of the Special Prize at the 40th Yasui Award Exhibition. Since then, he has been active as an artist all throughout Japan.
His work involves a sense of introspection and a focus on feelings from everyday life, expressed through tempera painting techniques to offer a boldly unconventional, yet light and airy look into this unique world, for distinctively vivid depictions of figures beloved by many.
This exhibition coincides with Adachi’s retirement after his many years teaching at the University of Toyama Faculty of Art and Design, with selections spanning his entire career, from early works to recent works, allowing visitors to trace his trajectory as an artist.
