To celebrate the first anniversary of the museum’s opening on June 11, the Mori Shusui Museum of Art invited Mugai-juku to give a demonstration of iai sword-drawing in the museum’s Soka seminar room.
To congratulate the museum on its first anniversary, and as a prayer for its future success, Mugai-juku performed akuma-harai (warding off evil) using real swords. They then gave an impressive demonstration of Muso Shinden-ryu techniques, such as inyo shintai and yama oroshi. The group’s dignified movements, combined with the echoing whoosh of their swords slicing through the air, created an impressive presence that left even the spectators sitting upright, as the air crackled with a dramatic tension.
