It is said that KOTETSU was originally an Armor Artisan of ECHIZEN-KOKU (modern Fukui Prefecture). In his fifties, he began to make Japanese swords and was active in EDO (Tokyo) in the early 17th Century. He was good at processing iron and created works that have both toughness and artistic quality.
