Itomaki (string-wrapped) tachi koshirae are sword fittings and mountings for ceremonial purposes, produced during the late Muromachi period (15th to 16th c.). Gorgeous pieces with showy decorations were given as gifts, particularly by the imperial family, the shogun’s family, and daimyo (feudal lord) families. This gorgeous, graceful piece was a Tokugawa shogun family heirloom.
